Today I watched Casino Royale on the USA network and I have a very difficult confession to make. I actually liked the movie. That’s a very hard confession coming from me. You see, I am a die hard James Bond/Sean Connery fan. By the time I was 13 I had read all of the James Bond novels. I’ve seen every James Bond movie with Sean Connery and boycotted every other James Bond movie made with any other actor. I usually watched the “other” James Bonds on tv.
My introduction to Daniel Craig was his character, Connor Rooney in Road to Perdition. That character was indelibly etched into my mind and became my idea of Daniel Craig. So when the big announcement came that Daniel Craig was going to be the new James Bond, I couldn’t believe it. My reaction was, “What the heck are they thinking, he’s all wrong!” Quite frankly, in my mind, no one other than Sean Connery would have been right. Yes, I know that he’s 79 years old, but he’s still my James Bond.
But I must admit, Daniel Craig makes a good James Bond. I even like the changes that were made to his character. That said, I guess I’ll search out Quantum of Solace on video and go see Bond 23 when it hits the theaters in 2011.
