Fred and I have two daughters who, like many other children, are as different as night and day. They are Anita and Nichole also known as Nita and Nikki. Although they are seven years apart they are very close, but when it comes to special occasions and holidays, you wouldn’t know it. They (really Nita) are so competitive.
I am an only child, so sibling rivalry was foreign to me. I never had to share any of my toys or anything else. No one wore my clothes and I always had my own room. I did not have to compete for my parents or god-parents attention because I was the one and only. So I am always amused at the rivalry between these girls.
Mother’s Day 2009
Anita lives in Atlanta and Nichole lives in Philadelphia. On holidays, birthdays, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, Nichole sends money to Anita to buy gifts for me and my husband. She also allows Anita to pick out a card for us; and that is where the hilarity begins.
On Mothers day Anita’s card said:
Front of Card: Happy Mother’s Day from me! You know, the Smart one!
Inside: And the cute one, and the witty one, and the charming one . . . it’s not like there was much competition.
The card Anita got for Nichole said:
Front of Card: Mom, you are the prize in the cereal box of life.
Inside: Or so I imagine. We didn’t get any prizes in that healthy crap you fed us. Happy Mother’s Day.
Of course, I knew the deal and it was hilarious. I called Nikki and told her, “I don’t know why you allow Nita to buy cards for you.” Then I read her the card. Nikki said I can’t believe Nita did that, oh it’s on now!”
I don’t know why Nikki can’t believe Nita did that because she’s been doing it for years. I can’t wait to see what kind of card Fred will get for Father’s Day.

That’s too cute!! I have 3 brothers and I’m the youngest, so I never had this type of experience…but I like it!
Now that’s funny. My sister and I share in purchasing gifts for Mom. I like for us to pick our own cards. This year I could not compete…my sister gave Mom an all paid trip to Italy. Mom’s elated. Now that is a hard one to beat on a teacher’s salary with possibility of 2% cut.
I spoke with Mom today trying to decide where I’m going for summer vacation and she says, I have to watch my spending, I have to have spending money for Italy. I asked her did she get my e-mail in regards to selecting a weekend to see “The Color Purple”? She reminded me again, she have to watch her spending. How long is this going to last? I might have to ask your girls for help!!
that was hilarious. your daughters are beautiful too.
